about JJ

Melissa JJ Moore is a Toronto based choreographer and producer.

Originally from Burlington, Ontario, JJ began her formal dance training at the age of 7.  She then pursued her post-secondary education at Ryerson University, graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts majoring in Dance Performance. JJ took her creative skills to the TV and film industry from the moment she moved to Toronto.

As a commercial dancer, JJ has contributed to TV shows and films, such as; The L.A. Complex, I, Martin Short Goes Home, Lost Girl, Silent Hill, Skins, The Strain, Bomb Girls, Much Music Video Awards, The Next Step as well as commercials and live events.

JJ’s love of choreography started at a young age. She choreographed her first official project at 13, where she alone set a 40-person community holiday musical.  Since then, she has worked as associate choreographer under Amy Wright on over 20 projects, including; The Next Step, Lost Girl and Wingin It; she was the resident choreographer for St Andrew’s College, working under Broadway and West End director, William Scoular, (choreographing a multitude of musicals and several original works); in 2016 she co-choreographed with Roberto Campanella, A Nutcracker Christmas, featuring Amy Acker, Sascha Radetsky and dancers from the National Ballet of Canada and in 2017 they co-choreographed Little Italy with Emma Roberts and Hayden Christensen.

Beyond choreography, JJ's experience and understanding of the industry expanded in 2016 through her work with DHX's hit show, Backstage. In addition to choreographing 60 episodes, she also cast all dancers and supported the entire project as one of the show's consulting producers for both season one and two.

JJ has earned the reputation of being strategically organized, delivering the creative team’s vision and offering the talent the support and the tools needed to achieve their best performance.
